Norway attracts global partners in sustainability
- Published 4 October 2024; updated 30 September 2026; estimated reading time 7 minutes. The article positions Norway as an innovation and sustainability partner and says it ranked in the top 25 of the Global Innovation Index. Its sections span marine resources, floating offshore wind, maritime, batteries, construction, solar and carbon capture; figures and corporate status are attributable to this page and may be historical.
- Blue economy examples: Aker BioMarine, described as a leading krill supplier with harvesting-to-production operations and 91% export turnover, mainly to the Americas and Asia, says it works to reduce bycatch. Hofseth is described as a seafood producer exporting over 95% of products and processing near the source. NUAS Technology turns whole unsaleable fish/residuals into protein, oil and bone products; Ocean TuniCell makes medical-grade biomaterial from marine invertebrates for tissue/organ engineering.
- Floating offshore wind history includes the Hywind Demo turbine installed in 2009, renamed Unitech Zephyros; Equinor’s Hywind Scotland (2017) and Hywind Tampen (2022); and the Marine Energy Test Centre (METCentre). The page lists transferable offshore capabilities such as floating foundations, moorings, geotechnical surveys, maintenance and service vessels. Digital/automation examples include Goodtech’s offshore-wind production automation and SCADA, Remota’s remote operations, Miros ocean monitoring and Spoor bird-activity monitoring.
- Maritime examples include VARD hybrid CSOV deliveries Norwind Hurricane and Rem Purus/Rem Powerto; Eidesvik Offshore’s methanol-powered vessel; Ulstein multi-fuel/methanol vessel concepts and vessels able to operate in zero-emission mode for up to 75% of operating time; about 80 electric commuter ferries; MS Ampere, MS Medstraum and Bastø Fosen ferry examples. The page claims hybrid plug-in vessels can reduce fuel/emissions by up to 25% against comparable diesel vessels.
- Battery examples include Beyonder battery technology, Nordic Batteries modules, Pixii energy storage, REC Silicon silane, and Hydrovolt recycling. The page says Hydrovolt can process 12,000 tonnes/year (equivalent to 25,000 cars) and recover black mass and other materials. Construction examples include NASTA electric excavators and PSW mobile batteries/DC fast charging; Excess Engineering’s electric actuator is described as 87% energy efficient and won a 2024 INTERMAT silver innovation award. Fonn construction-site software is also linked.
- Solar examples include Otovo residential-solar marketplace, Norwegian solar-cell production powered by hydropower, Ocean Sun floating solar, Sunlit Sea prefabricated floating-solar assembly, Alotta aquaculture-barge solar and Glint Solar site analysis. CCS examples include Aker Carbon Capture (now referenced as Capturi) and Northern Lights; the article states the storage project capacity as 1.5 million tonnes of CO₂/year and describes it as European industrial CO₂ transport/storage infrastructure. This capacity statement reflects the page’s text and may not capture later expansion status.
- Related industries linked: Battery, Energy, Maritime, Offshore wind and Hydrogen. The page is a broad portfolio overview with numerous linked article and solution pages; no direct individual contact block shown.
