Shipshave ITCH is a semi-autonomous underwater robot tethered to a foredeck winch. It uses propulsion energy from the moving vessel and soft brushes to clean the hull in a defined pattern; interchangeable heads target microfouling or macrofouling. The compact plug-and-play system is installed by the crew without ship modifications. Crew deploy it manually, while an onboard camera records the cleaning and supports hull inspection and condition documentation for port authorities. The page says removing early biofouling reduces friction, fuel use and greenhouse-gas emissions, and cleaning underway avoids schedule disruption and dedicated cleaning stops. It cites DNV estimates of average fuel savings of 8–10% in cold climates, with greater savings in warmer climates; a DNV assessment of a 200-metre bulk carrier is linked. Shipshave ITCH entered the market in early 2021 and is intended for professional vessels. Availability text says Shipshave is moving from start-up to scale-up. Listed industry value chain: Ship design and ship’s equipment.
