November Conference 2024
- Three-day in-person conference held 4–6 November 2024, 08:00–18:00 (GMT−03:00), at Windsor Florida Hotel in Rio de Janeiro. The annual Norwegian–Brazilian forum focused on research and innovation for the energy transition, bringing together 150–200 researchers, academics, business professionals, government representatives, and decision-makers to develop projects, exchange research, and pursue funding. Sessions combined plenary and parallel formats.
- Programme themes: 4 Nov—opening plenary, digital engineering, net-zero oil and gas production/SDGs, flow assurance, and materials/structural integrity; 5 Nov—funding and matchmaking, energy transitions in Europe and South America, bioenergy, subsea, and solar; 6 Nov—carbon capture and storage, offshore wind, minerals for the energy transition, machine learning in energy, hydrogen applications, energy and the UN Global Biodiversity Framework, and conference review. The page links to a visit to PUC-Rio’s Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Surfactants (LASURF).
- LASURF, coordinated by Professor Aurora Pérez-Gramatges, researches surfactants, polymers, and nanoparticles in solution and at interfaces; colloidal systems in complex fluids and pore-scale settings; and advanced analytical methods. Its energy-related work includes high-temperature/high-pressure bulk and core experiments, CO₂ foams and polymers for fluid mobility control, emulsion stability, produced-water quality, and chemical quantification to support water reuse/disposal. A guided laboratory visit was planned.
- Conference language: English, with no translation service. Participants received a 5% hotel discount using code NOVCONF24; the page recommended staying near a metro station due to traffic. Organisers: Innovation Norway, University of Oslo, and Norway’s Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro. Partners: Energy Ministry, University of Bergen, SINTEF, NORCE, UFRJ, PUC-Rio, Brazilian-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce, Hydro, IFE, Norwegian-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, NTNU, and University of South-Eastern Norway. Contact: Torkjell Leira (torkjell.leira@innovasjonnorge.no). Related industry: energy.
