From the public capture. Detailed factual notes from Business Norway. Statements and figures reflect the source at the time of capture.

  • Published 19 December 2022 and updated 23 March 2026. AION offers “Circularity as a Service” to large plastic users: reusable products such as pallets, bins, trays and baskets, plus collection, shredding, reprocessing and a digital traceability platform called AION LOOP. The platform tracks and analyses materials and supports supply-chain optimisation and ESG reporting.
  • The page says only about 10% of the 7 billion metric tons of plastic waste generated to date has been recycled. AION works across sourcing, design, production, logistics and impact analysis to set up closed-loop systems within customers’ operations, reducing virgin plastic use, waste and emissions. It listed targets to replace 7,500 tonnes of virgin plastic and avoid 15,000 tonnes of CO₂ by 2023; these are framed as historical targets, with no achievement status supplied.
  • The page cites a USD 4.5 trillion circular-economy market by 2030 and says customer and regulatory expectations are driving adoption. It names McDonald’s restaurants in Denmark, Norway and Sweden and Norwegian supermarket chain MENY as customers, and says AION planned Nordic, UK and US expansion, with opportunities in aquaculture and grocery retail. AION was established in 2020 by Aker BioMarine. Links to UN goals 9 and 12.
  • Public contact: Tormod Sandstø, Communications Director, tormod.sandsto@akerbiomarine.com. Company: AION AS, Widerøeveien 5, 1360 Fornebu, Norway; aion.eco. Phone control is present but the number is hidden until expanded.
