From the public capture. Detailed factual notes from Business Norway. Statements and figures reflect the source at the time of capture.

  • Published 5 June 2024 and updated 23 March 2026. Aker BioMarine harvests Antarctic krill and develops krill ingredients for aquaculture feed, animal feed and human supplements. The company handles the chain from harvesting through product development and krill-oil production. Its lines include QRILL Aqua, QRILL Pet and SUPERBA Krill, which provides omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients.
  • The page presents krill as a renewable source of protein and omega-3 for food security and says the fishery takes less than 1% of krill from any given area. It reports Marine Stewardship Council certification and an “A” rating from Sustainable Fisheries Partnership. A solar-powered, sensor-equipped unmanned surface vessel from Maritime Robotics scouts for krill and supports research/population mapping; the company says it uses 99% less fuel than a large fishing boat.
  • The Antarctic krill market is cited at USD 1.6 billion in 2023 and projected to reach USD 4.8 billion by 2033. Aker says its customers include major feed companies worldwide, with aquaculture taking the largest volume share, and it also sees demand for krill oil. The company received Norway’s Export Award in 2024. Links to UN goals 2, 12 and 14.
