Aurora Spirit Distillery crafts premium Arctic spirits
- Published 10 June 2025 and updated 28 September 2026. Aurora Spirit Distillery, described as the world’s northernmost distillery, makes Bivrost spirits near the Lyngen Alps using local Arctic barley and glacial meltwater. Its range includes gin, aquavit, vodka and whisky; Yggdrasil is its annual single-malt release. Whisky is aged in varied casks inside a wooden Viking longhouse near the sea. The site also offers guided tours with tastings, accommodation and local food.
- The distillery says it runs on 100% local renewable hydropower and uses one-shot distillation. Wastewater is reused for heat and equipment cleaning; it also refurbishes casks, grows some barley and sources local botanicals, berries and Norwegian yeast strains. The company’s stated aim is lower-impact production and tourism.
- It targets quality-focused consumers and travellers, with Germany, Norway, the UK and parts of Asia as key markets. The page cites a USD 215.47 billion premium-spirits market estimate for 2023 and forecasts 9.7% annual growth from 2024 to 2030. It notes a 2023 gold medal at the World Whiskies Awards.
