Marealis bioactive marine peptides from prawn shells
- Published 1 December 2022; updated 28 September 2026; 2-minute read. Marealis developed PreCardix, a health product containing bioactive peptides extracted from Arctic cold-water prawn shells (Pandalus borealis), a by-product otherwise often discarded. The article says the underlying discovery came from Nofima and that Marealis was founded to commercialise it.
- The page reports two clinical studies conducted from 2012–2015 with over 220 participants. It says the peptides had an ACE-inhibiting effect and that 89% of participants saw a significant blood-pressure reduction within eight weeks or less, with no side effects documented in those studies. These are claims reported by the article, not independent medical guidance. It says the effect was comparable to common antihypertensive drugs.
- The article says Marealis received approvals from Health Canada, the US FDA and EFSA, is a certified B Corporation, and was focused on North America while seeking partners to commercialise in other markets. Linked UN SDGs: 3 and 12; categories include biopharma, circular economy and Made in Norway.
