Blue Flame Stoves provides clean-burning ethanol cookstoves
- Published 1 December 2022; updated 21 September 2026; 2-minute read. Blue Flame Stoves makes ethanol cookstoves intended to replace wood and charcoal cooking. The article says the stove emits negligible soot and particulates, exceeds 65% fuel efficiency, and runs over five hours on one litre of ethanol, usually bioethanol made as a sugar-industry by-product. Production units are designed for export and local assembly in destination markets.
- The page says biomass cooking contributes to indoor-air pollution, respiratory illness and deforestation, and that local assembly can create work. It reports more than 55,000 Safi-brand stoves distributed in Kenya, Madagascar and Tanzania since 2014. It also says the stoves were accepted in Green Development’s World Bank-authorised carbon-credit programme in Madagascar, field-tested by UNHCR in Kenya’s Dadaab refugee camp, and that Samsung Electronics delivered more than 20,000 in Kenya with Green Development. Linked UN SDGs: 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 15.
