  • Published 15 December 2022; updated 23 March 2026; 2-minute read. EuroVanillin Supreme is a bio-based vanillin made from Norwegian spruce. The article describes the molecule as the same as petroleum-derived guaiacol vanillin while retaining small quantities of other aromatic compounds, which it says produce a broader, smoother aroma and roughly 20% greater intensity. Uses include food flavouring, flavour masking/boosting, cosmetics and personal-care preservatives/fragrances, animal feed, cleaning products and pharmaceutical intermediates.
  • Borregaard says the product’s production emissions are 90% lower than guaiacol-based vanillin. It is classified as a “derived natural ingredient” for cosmetics and personal care under ISO 16128-1. The page says Borregaard has produced wood-based bio-vanillin in Norway since 1962 and is the only producer of this type. The article cites a global vanillin market around 20,000 tonnes and a USD 205 million bio-vanillin market forecast for 2025, which is past-dated. Linked UN SDGs: 9, 12 and 15.
