Brødrene Aa builds sightseeing boats for emission-free tourism
- Published 6 August 2025; updated 5 October 2026; 2-minute read. Future of The Fjords is an all-electric carbon-fibre catamaran carrying up to 400 passengers on a route in the UNESCO-listed Sognefjord. The article gives a maximum speed of 16 knots, 30-nautical-mile range, a 1,900-kWh onboard battery and two electric engines totalling 1,170 horsepower. A 40-metre Powerdock with a 700-kWh battery bank charges the vessel in about 20 minutes. Brødrene Aa built the boat; The Fjords operates it. The Legacy of The Fjords sister vessel was delivered in 2020.
- The page presents the design as a way to carry large tourist groups through a protected fjord with no local exhaust or engine noise, and says rapid charging supports frequent departures. It reports the travel/tourism sector contributed USD 10.9 trillion to global GDP in 2024, or 10% of the global economy. Linked UN SDGs: 8, 11 and 14.
