Corvus Energy maritime battery systems
Published 6 July 2022; updated 30 September 2026; 3-minute read. Corvus Energy supplies vessel-specific lithium-ion energy-storage systems for ferries, passenger and commercial vessels, cruise ships, subsea vessels, offshore operations and ports. Batteries can replace diesel engines in fully electric ships or improve fuel efficiency in hybrid systems. The company says its systems are installed in more than 1,350 projects across marine segments and that over half of zero-emission vessels worldwide use Corvus technology. When charged with renewable power, electric vessels can operate with near-zero operating emissions; port installations can also provide shore power.
The article says hybrid deployments commonly cut fuel use and carbon emissions by 15–25% and nitrogen-oxide emissions by 30–40%; fully electric configurations can eliminate nearly all operating emissions. Corvus estimates its projects have avoided more than 11 million metric tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions. Systems are developed in Canada and manufactured in Norway, the US and China. The page notes a fully automated lithium-ion battery factory in Bergen and cites major deployments including China Zorilla, described as using over 40 MWh to carry more than 2,000 passengers and 200 cars between Argentina and Uruguay.
