Deep River mobile hydropower plants
Published 4 August 2025; updated 21 September 2026; 2-minute read. Deep River offers two plug-and-play hydropower units using a redesigned Kaplan turbine and synchronous-magnet generator. DROP & GO is pallet-mounted for micro-hydropower needs below 100 kW; container-based PLUG & GO targets mini-hydropower needs below 1 MW. Depending on inlet diameter, flow and waterfall head, the plants can produce up to 600 kW and include a hub for power storage and conversion. Installation takes less than a week and needs anchoring but no additional construction.
The units are presented for remote communities and disaster zones with limited grid access. The company says PLUG & GO could supply up to 1,350 households annually. Small size and light weight let the systems reach sites unsuitable for conventional equipment. They are described as competitively priced, using high-quality components, needing little maintenance and having an expected 15-year service life.
The article cites an estimate that 1.2 billion people lack electricity, over 26,000 unused European sites suitable for mini-hydropower below 1 MW, and substantial untapped global hydropower potential. Deep River received Horizon 2020 SME Instrument phase 1 support for its HYDROGO project. Availability shown: available. Category: energy. Linked UN SDG: 7.
