DigiFarm satellite field-boundary mapping
Published 23 March 2023; updated 23 March 2026; 3-minute read. DigiFarm uses deep neural networks and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery to detect field boundaries and planted areas, at resolutions from 10 m to 1 m per pixel. The SaaS data integrates into customer products through APIs. The company says it validated its model on roughly 400 million hectares and achieved accuracy above 94%, 12–15% higher than existing boundary datasets.
The article describes the mapping as a foundation for precision agriculture, in-field analytics, crop-yield planning and input optimisation. Governments and agricultural organisations can use the data for crop-health monitoring, reporting and subsidy verification; finance and insurance users can update client risk information. The page says Austrian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian and Swedish agencies save about 25% on annual control costs, and that better seeding and fertiliser decisions can raise yields and reduce input costs.
The article reports 52 enterprise clients in 17 countries and a 60-person core team. Named clients include Yara International, FMC, Bayer Crop Science, CNH Industrial, ENI and KWS, as well as agriculture ministries. DigiFarm received EIC Accelerator blended financing, joined ESA BIC Norway, won the 2021 INNOSpace Masters and Airbus Challenge, and was among ESA’s nominated top 20 European startups in 2023. The availability field lists Canada, Germany, Norway and the US, while saying other regions would become available in 2021; this region note is historical. Linked UN SDGs: 2 and 12.
