KONGSBERG Dynamic Digital Twin for remote and autonomous assets
Published 23 November 2022; updated 21 September 2026; 2-minute read. KONGSBERG Digital’s Dynamic Digital Twin is an integrated digital tool for oil and gas facilities, adaptable to other industries. It recreates real assets as data-enriched 3D models for evaluating concepts and operational assets, including operations, behaviour, maintenance, costs and performance. It can be accessed on mobile phones, tablets and desktop devices.
The article describes using the twin to plan, design, commission and operate assets, shorten commissioning, and improve performance through data-driven operations. Machine-learning algorithms support process efficiency. Users can test scenarios and control settings virtually before implementing them on physical assets. The system combines systems and work layers to support cross-discipline collaboration and share information across the organisation/value chain.
The page frames the opportunity as evaluating design and operational risks before production or offshore work, and considering an asset within wider infrastructure such as production capacity, piping and energy systems. It reports experience of a 2–5% production-efficiency increase, attributed to improved control schemes and more robust, right-sized designs, with lower energy use and maintenance. These are claims on the article, not independently verified figures.
The tool is described as applicable beyond oil and gas, including control of autonomous, unmanned and remotely operated assets in air and space. Kongsberg Digital and Agder Energi had signed an agreement to explore use in hydropower digitalisation (linked announcement from 2019). Availability: available. Category: energy. Linked UN SDG: 9.
