SediCon Sluicer for tunnel sand traps
Published 23 November 2022; updated 23 March 2026; 2-minute read. SediCon Sluicer removes sediment from hydropower desanders and tunnel sand traps using gravity and the flow pattern generated at a bottom slot. The flow mixes water and sediment and moves it into a slotted pipe for controlled discharge. The page says it handles debris and stones up to 200 mm, has unlimited removal capacity, and uses a few cubic metres of water per metric ton of sediment.
The system has no moving parts or power supply, so SediCon describes it as nearly emission-free, reliable and low-maintenance. It can be customised for new installations or retrofitted to older desanders, including open or pressurised systems, and the page says operation does not interrupt power production. Controlled gradual discharge is presented as helping limit environmental impacts compared with flushing methods that consume water and can cause lost generation.
The article states SediCon was founded in 1999 and had installed patented sediment-management solutions in 20 countries. Other products listed are SediCon Dredge, Desander Dredge and Gravel Excluder. Market-size/capacity figures in the article, including projections to 2023/2040, are historical. Availability: available. Category: energy / hydropower. Linked UN SDG: 7.
