Fire Security cable repair and protective coating
Published 29 June 2022; updated 30 September 2026; 3-minute read. Fire Security visually inspects cables and checks electrical condition before spraying a proprietary liquid coating onto the exterior. The coating is described as a protective layer against UV, heat and corrosive chemicals and as fire-protective. The company says it can be applied to live cables, avoiding the two-to-three-day shutdowns some alternative operations require.
The liquid is described as non-toxic, solvent-free and phosphate-free. The article says extending cable life reduces replacement expense, virgin-plastic use, waste, manufacturing/installation emissions and worker risk. Fire Security claims its treatment can triple cable life; its example says a cable with five years remaining could be extended to 15 years, and says 1,000 m of cable kept in service is equivalent to removing emissions from burning 76 barrels of oil. The coating is also said to slow fire propagation.
The company reports 36 years of operation serving maritime, process and oil/gas sectors; it says its product is approved for US Navy use, including submarines, and that it has worked with offshore wind farms. It was expanding into renewable energy, including solar. Availability: available. Categories: offshore wind / operations and maintenance; energy. Linked UN SDGs: 7, 8, 9 and 12.
