Fjell Technology Group sludge drying and reuse
Published 19 December 2022; updated 23 March 2026; 2-minute read. Fjell Technology Group supplies equipment that dries and separates fish-farm sludge and other wastewater for reuse. The machinery can be installed at land-based fish farms or municipal wastewater plants; the page says it can dry input from 0.1% to as much as 99% dry substance. Its patented dryer is described as market-leading and, for large sludge volumes, the market’s most energy-efficient option.
Dried sludge can become fertiliser additives or other agricultural products using nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus. The article notes fish sludge contains nutrients as well as heavy metals such as zinc, nickel and cadmium. It says recovery/reuse reduces the need for waste handling and transport, lowering costs and emissions and supporting a circular economy.
Fjell Technology Group estimates Norway’s aquaculture-sludge drying market alone at over USD 75 million, with a much larger global market; municipal wastewater is described as a still larger global opportunity. The company history traces to Stord Bartz in 1980, with FTG taking over production in 2000; equipment had been delivered to Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Norway and Saudi Arabia.
