  • Published 21 March 2023; updated 21 September 2026; 2-minute read. Flatsetsund Engineering’s FLS Delouser is a modular mechanical treatment for salmon and trout that uses seawater at ambient seawater temperature, without chemical agents. Fish pass through a low-pressure vacuum pipeline from one net pen and are released directly into another, avoiding deck exposure to air, changing temperatures and weather. The page says fish can begin eating soon after treatment and that the low pressure supports low injury/mortality.

  • The company reports throughput of 20–50 metric tonnes per hour per line, depending on fish size and condition, and removal of 90–95% of sea lice. The system can be configured for customer needs and installed on barges, service boats or well boats. The article says chemical-free treatment avoids marine pollution and the development of multidrug resistance in lice.

  • Market context includes a historical expectation that salmon production would reach 4.7 million tonnes by the mid-2020s and Norway’s share above 50% at article publication.
