Foamrox recycled-glass building material
Published 14 December 2022; updated 21 September 2026; 2-minute read. Foamrox material combines a recycled-glass core with a polyurea coating. The page says it weighs less than one-tenth as much as concrete and is durable, fire-resistant, waterproof, frost-resistant, temperature-stable and pest-resistant. Its low weight and prefabrication are said to make production, transport, installation and worksite handling safer and faster, and to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions relative to conventional materials.
The product is presented as a substitute for construction, insulation and fire-safety materials, especially in tunnels: emergency cabinets/stations, firewalls and walkways between twin tunnels. Other potential uses include buildings, vessels and offshore installations. Testing was conducted with SINTEF, RISE Fire Research, NIRAS and the University of Agder. The article notes cement/concrete’s emissions as context and cites cement-industry market value of USD 355.6 billion in 2016.
