GRIN smart collection systems for circular products
- Published December 4, 2024; updated March 23, 2026; estimated reading time 3 minutes. Status: available. Market: Europe. Industry: Circular economy.
- GRIN’s Revore smart collection system is intended to return reusable or recyclable products from consumers to companies, supporting circular business models across product types such as reusable packaging, medical devices and electronics. It uses collection hardware and subscription software. Hardware is purchased upfront; the digital service is subscription-based.
- Collection machines have image sensors to detect, identify and validate returned items, monitor bin fill and alert when full. AI software validates and documents returns; back-end systems collect and analyze data for customers or third parties. Fleet-management software supports operating and servicing large numbers of machines. Digital incentives and rewards can be configured.
- The article describes the challenge of getting circular products back at end-of-life. GRIN says a flexible system can reduce customization and overall collection costs, automate reverse logistics, reduce manual labor and make return schemes easier for consumers.
- GRIN identifies European food service—including grocery stores and workplace canteens—as its primary market. It gives a figure of about 75,000 quick-service locations in Europe. It reports more than 100 machines installed in Norway and the Netherlands, including machines for reusable deposit cups at every location of a large Dutch quick-service restaurant chain; deposits are issued on paper receipts.
- The page says GRIN planned 2025 pilots in Belgium, Slovenia and Spain through Horizon Europe’s Digital Health in the Circular Economy (DiCE) project, collecting electronics and medical devices at pharmacies and hospitals. DiCE is coordinated by Johnson & Johnson, with Philips named as a partner; GRIN also cites prior collaboration with Novo Nordisk on injection-pen collection. These plans are stated as in the article.
