- Heimdall Power combines Neuron IoT sensors on high-voltage overhead lines with Heimdall Cloud software, which digitizes and analyzes line data and helps regulate power flows. The sensors can detect and locate faults and predict emerging faults or capacity changes caused by vibration, weather or ice. Operators receive real-time alerts for surges and failures.
- Thermal management is intended to optimize line capacity and reduce renewable electricity that is stranded because of grid constraints. The company says its system supports capacity increases, planning, lower operating costs, less downtime and electricity loss, and longer use of existing infrastructure.
- Patented drone installation can place sensors on energized lines within seconds without outages. Devices require no external power source and are described as globally deployable with minimal maintenance/adjustment.
- The article cites an IEA estimate of USD 7.2 trillion in transmission and distribution investment for 2012–2035. Heimdall’s target is power lines above 7 kV; it notes Germany has 685,000 km of such lines. A 2025 update says sensors had been installed for 50 utilities in 19 countries and the company had opened a North American headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. SDG 7 shown.
