Hexagon Purus Maritime compressed-hydrogen vessel fuel system
- Published October 25, 2022; updated September 30, 2026; estimated reading time 3 minutes. Status: available. Categories: Hydrogen / Distribution and transport; Energy.
- Hexagon Purus Maritime supplies compressed-hydrogen storage and fuel systems for vessels, based on Type 4 composite high-pressure cylinders and the company’s land-transport experience. The system includes cylinders, piping, valves, pressure gauges, safety and control systems. Tanks can be mounted on or below deck, individually or in bundles.
- Two supply arrangements are described: fixed tanks refueled through a hose in port, or swappable containers exchanged for full ones. The system monitors pressure, temperature and other parameters and interfaces with vessel safety/alarm systems, including emergency shutdown and safe hydrogen venting.
- The page positions hydrogen as a zero-emission option for vessels with predictable routes, such as fast ferries and aquaculture workboats, saying other power sources still emit some CO₂ and NOₓ. It argues that maritime hydrogen requires a complete value chain and coordination with partners. The company says it covers major portions of that chain with partners.
- Hexagon Purus Maritime was established in 2021 as a Hexagon Purus division within Hexagon Group. The article cites policy/regulatory drivers including the EU Taxonomy, EU hydrogen strategy, climate goals and IMO emissions targets. It links related orders for hydrogen distribution systems and mobile refueling stations. SDGs shown: 8 and 9. Embedded video has no transcript exposed.
