  • Hystar developed a proton-exchange-membrane (PEM) electrolyser for producing hydrogen from water using renewable electricity. The company says its cell design and process architecture can lower electricity consumption or increase output, reducing production cost. It attributes high output partly to a membrane 90% thinner than in conventional units.
  • Hystar’s design aims at modular mass production using fewer materials. The company says it minimizes precious metals and construction material, plans to reuse/recycle them, and improves PEM electrolysis safety. It positions green hydrogen as an alternative to grey hydrogen produced with fossil fuels, and identifies industrial use, renewable power and transport as target applications.
  • The article describes hydrogen electrolysis as a decarbonization technology and cites IEA and European Commission policy support. Hystar, a spin-off from SINTEF, said it aimed to become one of the top five PEM electrolysis companies by 2030 and planned demonstration projects over the following two years, including a 1 MW pilot. These are dated company goals and plans. SDG 7 shown.
