Ixys remote control for harsh and inaccessible operations

- Ixys supplies firmware, hardware and software for remotely operating ROVs, UAVs, vehicles and other autonomous systems. Operators use the company’s VJU Studio graphical interface to arrange screens, manage reporting and view real-time data. It supports open APIs and many firmware systems, automatically detects and configures much equipment, and can be rearranged or modified on site without reprogramming—even while operating.
- The system supports communication over satellite, cellular networks, Wi-Fi, optical fiber or cable, depending on equipment and location. The company says its communication protocol is designed to limit latency and downtime. One operator can control several operations in different locations from a single site.
- The article says remote equipment is increasingly used for difficult or hazardous work, but human control still requires personnel travel and accommodation, sometimes by offshore helicopter. Remote operation can reduce the size of support teams, travel costs and related emissions while addressing work in places that are costly or hard to reach.
- Potential uses listed include energy exploration, aquaculture, subsea work, drones, robotics, autonomous vehicles, industrial production and avalanche control. Ixys describes itself as a pioneer that produced the first commercial remote-control system for ROVs. SDG 9 shown. Page includes an image carousel; no video transcript indicated.
