  • Jotun Hull Skating Solutions combine SeaQuantum Skate, a high-performance coating intended to work with HullSkater robotics, vessel condition monitoring, and proactive hull inspection and cleaning. The HullSkater is installed during docking, remains onboard in a portable station with a launch/recovery ramp, and is remotely operated by a Jotun Skate Operator with 24/7 support. It can be deployed when a ship is in port or at anchor. Jotun also provides project management during coating application and installation and extended performance/service guarantees.
  • The article says hull fouling increases fuel consumption and greenhouse emissions and can transfer invasive aquatic species. The system is designed for challenging operations such as fouling-rich waters and long idle periods; monitoring is used to anticipate inspection and cleaning needs. Claimed benefits include lower fuel costs and emissions, reduced invasive-species risk, protection during idle periods, and continuous inspection and hull-condition verification.
  • Jotun was validating the solution with KONGSBERG, Semcon, DNV GL and Telenor, and shipping companies Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Berge Bulk and Maersk. The article says tighter regulations and biosecurity concerns may drive demand; operators may also face charter-party claims or port detention when hull performance and invasive-species risks are not managed. SDG 14 shown.
