Kobla mobility app for greener travel choices
- Published March 21, 2023; updated September 21, 2026; estimated reading time 3 minutes. Status: available. Categories: Technology; Smart cities; Transportation.
- Kobla is a Mobility-as-a-Service app that automatically records users’ travel habits, then compares alternatives to private-car trips. It answers practical questions about potential savings, nearby scooter rental and commute choices, and provides trip costs such as fuel, tolls and tickets alongside CO₂ emissions. Municipalities buy the service and make it free to residents.
- The app encourages walking, cycling and public transport through personal goals, friend and colleague competitions, points for greener trips, and small rewards such as prizes, discounts and coffee. The company says it tries to make alternatives appealing by showing how they may save money and time.
- With user consent, travel data can also help municipalities plan transport and meet sustainability goals. Kobla says customer information is not sent to the cloud. The article says the app had been implemented in Norway and Sweden, was seeking international expansion, and was available to businesses to support employee wellbeing. It cites a projected smart-mobility market above USD 74 billion by 2027; this is a historical forecast. SDGs 3 and 11 shown.
