Metizoft IHM documentation and management for ships

- Metizoft provides a turnkey Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) system for maritime use. The article says IHM rules require hazardous materials in a ship’s construction and equipment to be recorded, with later owners tracking changes throughout the vessel’s life. The IHM must accompany a ship to recycling or scrapping.
- Metizoft says its certified system aligns with the IMO Hong Kong Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships and the EU Ship Recycling Regulation. It tracks more than 20 hazardous-material categories, including asbestos, PCBs and CFCs, and can handle new and existing vessels. An up-to-date IHM helps crews take safety precautions; for significant asbestos findings, the company prepares an asbestos management plan. Advance knowledge of material locations also helps recycling workers avoid exposure and plan safer dismantling.
- For an existing vessel without an IHM, certified inspectors board and take samples, which go to a certified laboratory. The inspection and lab results are documented in an IHM report; after approval, Metizoft can help maintain it. The page says Metizoft and its subsidiaries are certified by DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register and BV, and can serve all vessel types and maritime constructions covered by the convention.
- The article gives an estimate that about 30,000 ships worldwide were required to carry an updated IHM under EU rules as of December 31, 2020, and estimates about 60,000 vessels would be affected by the Hong Kong Convention. It identifies maritime equipment manufacturers and suppliers/sub-suppliers as target customers. Founded in 2006 to map hazardous materials on ships, Metizoft also offers ESG, chemical-management and life-cycle-assessment services. SDGs 3, 14 and 15 shown.
