Modulize loosens the tendering bottleneck in offsite construction
- Published March 20, 2023; updated September 21, 2026; estimated reading time 3 minutes. Categories: Technology; Architecture and construction.
- Modulize provides SaaS software for cost estimation and bidding in offsite construction. Manufacturers receive a 3D building model or 2D drawing and traditionally spend hours on manual calculations and qualitative price assessments. The software automates this tendering step, is intended to improve quote accuracy, and can integrate into a broader end-to-end toolset for planning, design and execution.
- Initial users reportedly reduced some project estimates from one hour to five minutes. The company expected time savings of up to 70%. The article says improved efficiency may make manufacturers more competitive and encourage a shift from on-site to prefabricated and modular construction.
- The page cites construction as responsible for 35% of EU waste generation and 5–12% of national greenhouse-gas emissions. It says offsite construction adoption ranges from 2% to 20%, depending on geography, and cites claims that it can reduce on-site waste by up to 90% and emissions by 50%, increase recycling, improve worker safety and quality through factory controls, finish buildings in half the time, and reduce construction costs by up to 20%.
- Market potential: the article forecasts an offsite-construction market of USD 236 million by 2030, nearly twice its then-current value. Modulize had launched its tendering software and had Norwegian customers; it is described as an Oslo early-stage startup founded by people concerned about construction’s environmental impact. SDG 9 shown.
