INOshackle enables cleaner, more efficient heavy lifting for subsea operations

- INOshackle™ is described as the world’s first water-based hydraulic shackle. Developed by Inovatum Lifting AS and now owned by Møllerodden AS, it runs on water or air instead of hydraulic oil. Multiple shackles can connect at one stab point and be fastened or released simultaneously. The standard product is for lifting and positioning 25–150 metric tonnes; custom versions are available. The page gives a custom range as “9 and 6-7 000 metric tons, or more,” an apparent formatting error. It says the product is designed and tested to DNVGL-ST-0378 for offshore/platform lifting and is available for sale or rental.
- Conventional oil-based hydraulic shackles are described as large, labour-intensive and at risk of small oil spills. INOshackle is intended to save hours of lifting time, reducing vessel operating time, greenhouse-gas emissions and offshore labour. Its small, light form is said to improve manoeuvrability and worker safety; water hydraulics remove the risk of oil contamination.
- The article identifies offshore oil and gas, wind, tidal power and aquaculture as potential uses, and says the market is global. Møllerodden, established in 1960, supplies onshore and offshore lifting gear such as sheaves, blocks, swivels and INOshackles. It handles sales and design with owner Brødrene Haukås Mek. Verksted AS, which manufactures equipment; the company planned to extend its water-hydraulic technology beyond subsea lifting. SDGs 9 and 14 shown.
