  • Monviro’s seafloor 4D gravity surveys measure small changes in subsurface gravity to map fluid movement, quantify underground mass changes and characterise reservoir properties such as permeability. The page says this provides more accurate measurements than ship- or aircraft-based gravity surveys, gives direct mass-change measurements complementary to seismic monitoring, and measures seafloor subsidence to within a few millimetres to track pressure-plume evolution during CO₂ injection.
  • The article presents CCS as needed for hard-to-decarbonise sectors, alongside electrification and renewables, while noting leakage risks and the need to monitor injection and storage safely. 4D gravity surveys are described as costing as little as 10% of seismic surveys because of simpler instruments, lower vessel costs and shorter data turnaround. The method is passive and the page says it is safe for fish and marine mammals. Aside from small concrete foundations, no permanent seafloor instruments are needed, so survey areas can expand with the CO₂ plume.
  • Target customers are CCS operators, especially offshore projects injecting CO₂ into depleted gas fields or deep saline aquifers. The technology originated in oil and gas and has been used to monitor the CO₂ plume at the Sleipner gas field. Other potential uses include monitoring seafloor stability near communications infrastructure and offshore wind turbines. SDG 9 shown.
