- Published March 22, 2023; updated September 21, 2026; estimated reading time 2 minutes. Categories: Maritime; Technology.
- Nordic Unmanned uses unmanned aerial systems to provide a rapid aerial overview of oil spills. Video helps on-scene coordinators assess spill extent and direct response resources. Data is processed for the emergency coordinator through the company’s NUView web interface; recordings are stored locally and encrypted. Video can be streamed to a web service for remote coordination when internet is available.
- The article says oil spills need immediate action to limit persistent damage to marine life and that response teams require situational awareness. Nordic Unmanned offers a 24-hour response service, promising aerial support on site within 24 hours. Equipment fits into two Pelican cases, and the drone needs a 4×4 metre take-off and landing area.
- Nordic Unmanned is described as a provider of UAS technology and monitoring/inspection services, including oil-spill response, vessel sulphur-emissions monitoring, rail inspection and hydrogen-drone services. The article says the company has a 24-hour emergency-response contract with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) to support EU and EFTA maritime authorities’ pollution-response vessels and a separate EMSA contract for remote monitoring of vessel sulphur emissions.
