- Norilia makes hydrolysed protein ingredients from poultry side streams for human and pet nutrition. The page frames the need in terms of more sustainable agriculture and food security: it cites 870 million people without enough food and says 30–40% of food is lost or wasted along the production chain. It argues that meat-production side streams are often used in lower-value non-food applications even though their nutritional content could support higher-value food uses.
- Norilia processes poultry bones and off-cuts through continuous enzymatic hydrolysis, described as a gentle extraction method that preserves nutritional value. The resulting proteins are rich in peptides, short protein chains the page describes as readily digestible.
- Ingredients can be used in foods, beverages and nutritional supplements for athletes, health-conscious consumers, older people and people with food sensitivities. The page positions the savory ingredients as an alternative to the many sweet protein products on the market.
- Products and stated specifications: Nor-Hydropep 90 SD is spray-dried and listed as 84% protein; Nor-Hydropep 60 is liquid and listed as 60% dry matter. Both can be incorporated into different food and pet-food formats. Nor-Prot50 is a partly hydrolysed protein and mineral meal intended for premium pet food.
- Norilia says using Norwegian poultry and creating more value from side streams improves agricultural resource efficiency. It describes Norwegian livestock as having low infectious-disease levels and low antibiotic use, with no GMO or growth-hormone use, and links this to ingredient quality for human consumption.
- Demand context given: population growth and consumer interest in product composition, production and origin; an expanding older population and geriatric care; and continued protein-supplement use among athletes and health-conscious consumers. No quantified market size is supplied.
- Norilia, backed by Nortura, and Felleskjøpet Agri established industrial enzymatic hydrolysis of poultry bones through joint venture Bioco AS. Norilia states it has a global export strategy for higher-end ingredients and belongs to NCE Heidner Biocluster and The Life Science Cluster.
- The page links the work to SDG 2, Zero hunger, and SDG 9, Industry, innovation and infrastructure, through food security and improved resource use in poultry production.
