  • Published 20 March 2023; updated 21 September 2026; estimated reading time 3 minutes. Listed as available under Proptech (Technology), Transportation and Smart cities.
  • Parqio’s app-based access system turns private shared garages into mobility/service hubs. Residents and office workers can open garage gates automatically via smartphone, share spaces with visitors or rent them to trusted users. Garage administrators manage access and services through a dashboard.
  • The company says up to 50% of shared private parking spaces are unused on average. Parqio proposes making them available to delivery drivers, service providers, car-sharing fleets and other users as urban on-street parking declines and cities seek lower-emission transport.
  • Potential garage services named include car-share parking, paid storage and charging for electric bikes, parcel boxes, tire changes and other user services. The company says consolidating them near home/work can improve convenience and avoid extra trips. Replacing physical remotes with digital keys is also presented as reducing microelectronics use and administrative work.
  • Market context: Parqio says Norway has over 10,000 private shared garages and Sweden about twice that number, and infers that Europe may have millions. Target customers are residential/office building administrators and developers.
  • Launched in January 2021, Parqio reported over 60 locations and 5,000 users within a year. OBOS and car-sharing provider Otto Mobility are named as large customers; OBOS and Construct Venture invested in January 2022. The company’s expansion plan was to start in the Nordic region. These deployment figures are historical as stated in the article.
  • Linked to SDG 11, Sustainable cities and communities, through shared-garage mobility and service hubs.
