Plany introduces textile door concept for gangway lift towers in offshore wind
- Published 29 June 2022; updated 30 September 2026; estimated reading time 3 minutes. Listed under Offshore wind / Operation and maintenance, and Energy.
- Plany’s Roller Gate System is a PVC-coated textile door for lift towers on offshore-wind service operation vessels. Unlike a metal roller door, it resembles an adjustable vertical blind and moves automatically as a motion-compensated gangway changes height with sea movement. It keeps the lift-tower opening closed except for the gangway access. Each unit is vessel-specific and uses hydraulic or electric power.
- The page frames the product as a small operational improvement intended to reduce offshore-wind costs and improve efficiency. It says the door is quiet, corrosion-resistant, easy to maintain and can be repaired offshore. The material is described as resistant to wind, water and icing, with lower replacement cost than metal doors.
- Target installations are service-operation vessels with lift towers and gangways used for technicians to walk to offshore turbines. Plany says it was introducing the system in Canada and other global markets. The company also makes a canvas Curtain System for ship hangars and has supplied technical textiles to aquaculture, agriculture and maritime sectors since 1964.
- Linked to SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy) for lowering offshore-wind operating costs and SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth) for safe personnel access.
