ScanReach IoT platform saves lives on wind farms
- Published 29 June 2022; updated 30 September 2026; estimated reading time 2 minutes. Listed under Offshore wind / Operation and maintenance, Technology / IoT, and Energy.
- ScanReach’s POB Connect Wind is a wireless personnel-on-board platform for offshore wind. It connects service operation vessels (SOVs), wind turbines and shore through steel structures without onboard cables. The page says the system can track personnel from vessel compartments to turbines and provide automatic headcounts and gangway registration on walk-to-work gangways.
- Wearable devices allow workers to communicate one-to-one. Automated muster and gangway tracking are described as replacing manual registers and the conventional gangway watchman, helping ensure crew members are accounted for. Real-time personnel locations are intended to improve emergency response and reduce search-and-rescue location time from hours to minutes.
- SOV captains can use the personnel overview to decide whom to collect and where, potentially shortening travel within a wind farm and reducing energy use, pollution and operating costs. The page describes work transfers in exposed offshore conditions and the difficulty of finding an injured worker in a remote location as key safety concerns.
- The market discussion projected a USD 1 trillion offshore-wind industry and 120,000 turbines by 2050. It said ConnectPOB Wind was already used on numerous offshore-wind SOVs and that the company was winning contracts; these are article-era statements. The page links the general ConnectPOB maritime product.
