  • SediCon’s Gravel Excluder is a fixed, gravity-powered system that clears sediment and stones from hydropower intakes. Its suction head is designed to remove particles up to the diameter of the pipe without clogging it. The system is made from high-density polyethylene, described as durable, corrosion-resistant and abrasion-resistant.
  • In its basic configuration it has no moving parts: an open siphon outlet starts automatically when water level rises. An optional valve or gated outlet can start operation. The article says maintenance needs are minimal and remote monitoring is not required.
  • The device is intended to remove sediment during floods when river sediment is naturally moving, while keeping sediment transport closer to its natural biological and morphological balance. It uses gravity and surplus water, so the company describes it as virtually emission-free and says power production can continue. Each unit is custom-designed; the largest installed system described allows stones over one metre to pass, with larger sizes possible on request.
  • The page explains that sediment can block intakes and that flushing may consume water and reduce generation. The market discussion repeats past projections about 2040 power demand and 2023 hydropower capacity; those forecast dates are historical. SediCon says it was founded in 1999 and had installed sediment-management solutions in 20 countries. Related products named are SediCon Dredge, Desander Dredge and Sluicer.
  • Linked to SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy).
