Soil Steam replaces pesticides with steam and increases harvests
- Published 22 March 2023; updated 23 March 2026; estimated reading time 2 minutes. Marked “Under development”; available regions listed as the Americas, Europe and Oceania. Listed under Agritech and food production.
- Soil Steam’s FieldSaver uses hot steam to treat soil before planting or sowing, aiming to eliminate weeds, pests and plant diseases without chemical pesticides. The company says the treatment improves soil structure and biological balance and is suited to berries, flowers and vegetables.
- The page lists expected benefits including less chemical pollution, higher yields through reduced pests/disease, a weed-bank/pest suppression effect that may last several years, improved soil quality and use across different plot sizes and crop types. These are product claims; the page gives no quantified trial results.
- Soil Steam describes FieldSaver as supporting chemical-free or organic agriculture and says demand for sustainable food production and food safety is driving the market. It links SoilSaver, a separate system for disinfecting construction soil so it can be reused.
- Development status: the page explicitly says FieldSaver remains under development and is not in commercial use. All performance and market benefits are therefore prospective.
- Linked to SDGs 2 (Zero hunger) and 12 (Responsible consumption and production).
