  • Sorbwater Technology’s Sorbfloc® is a biopolymer-based flocculant for wastewater treatment, intended to replace synthetic polymers such as polyacrylamide (PAM). The biodegradable, non-toxic compounds bind organic and inorganic particles into larger masses that can be removed. A small quantity of a non-toxic cross-binder is also required; Sorbwater says it supplies aluminium or iron and can advise on mixing and dosing.
  • The product is described for municipal wastewater, greywater, tank-wash water, industrial effluent and land-based aquaculture. The company says it can be used in existing treatment systems without new hardware, keeping adoption costs low. Because the material is described as non-toxic, the resulting sludge may be suitable for reuse in products such as fertiliser or animal feed; the page presents this as an upcycling opportunity.
  • The article says 80% of global wastewater flows back into ecosystems untreated or unreused and raises concern that persistent synthetic polymers may behave as nanoplastics and accumulate in organisms. These are attributed statements from the cited sources.
  • Sorbwater reported Sorbfloc use in the Netherlands, Norway, UK and US and plans to expand into Europe, the Middle East and South America. It cites a wastewater-treatment-chemicals market forecast of USD 35 billion by 2023 from a current USD 22 billion; the forecast date has passed.
  • Linked to SDGs 6 (Clean water and sanitation) and 12 (Responsible consumption and production).
