  • Published 13 October 2022; updated 4 September 2026; estimated reading time 3 minutes. Marked available in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania; listed under Technology, Maritime, Energy and Industrial production.
  • ScoutDI’s Scout 137 Gen 3 is a tethered inspection drone for hazardous, dark or GPS-denied industrial interiors, including tanks, vessels, cargo holds, penstocks and shafts. It uses a 128-beam survey-grade 3D LiDAR to navigate without GPS or compass and provide 360-degree situational awareness. Its tether connects to a ground station, allowing effectively unlimited flight time; a 4K camera with 3.5× optical zoom streams to the operator’s tablet.
  • The Scout Portal turns captured data into an interactive 3D digital twin with location-tagged inspection findings and statistics. The Scout API can connect results to customers’ asset-integrity management systems. A gas sensor is standard on Gen 3; ultrasonic thickness measurement is optional. The page says this lets inspectors work remotely and reduces the need for confined-space entry, scaffolding or rope access.
  • ScoutDI says the drone can inspect large spaces in minutes rather than hours, support more frequent predictive maintenance and help find corrosion/cracks before failures or leaks. These are company claims without comparative quantitative evidence in the article. The system’s first sale was in late 2020; the company reports customers from Scandinavia to the Gulf, Asia and the Americas, across maritime, infrastructure, power, ports, and oil and gas.
  • Testimonials/case-study links include Uniper dam-safety engineer Lars Jonsson and inspections at Sweden’s Storfinnforsen hydropower plant, Ørsted offshore wind tower bases and a coke drum.
  • Linked to SDGs 8 (Decent work and economic growth), 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure), 14 (Life below water) and 15 (Life on land).
