From the public capture. Detailed factual notes from Business Norway. Statements and figures reflect the source at the time of capture.

  • Published 30 June 2022; updated 30 September 2026; estimated reading time 3 minutes. Marked available; listed under Offshore wind / Operation and maintenance and Energy.
  • Uptime International’s “Walk to Work” is an electric, motion-compensated gangway for moving personnel and cargo between a vessel and fixed or floating offshore wind turbines or power stations. It connects with the vessel’s dynamic positioning system. The page calls its 2019 system the world’s first autonomous gangway for offshore wind installations and says it is ready for floating wind.
  • A bridge operator controls the 30 m system. Features include assisted landing, slip-off detection, step-free access, optional transfer lines and an integrated crane rated for lifting up to 6 metric tonnes. The landing function uses data from previous landings at a location to improve later docking. Uptime also supplies gangways 18–60 m long and says the system can be fitted to any offshore vessel.
  • The company says automated landing reduces human handling and docking time, lowers risk, and can reduce service-vessel fuel consumption and operating costs. The page gives no quantified fuel/time savings or independent test evidence; “emission-free” refers to the electric gangway system, not necessarily the vessel’s overall operation.
  • Since 1979, Uptime says it has supplied nearly 150 gangway systems to offshore energy; wind-project deliveries began in 2012. The product line has expanded into personnel-and-cargo logistics systems, reporting tools and real-time data for onshore teams. The article records a company expectation of rising demand through 2030 and beyond.
  • Linked to SDGs 7, 8 and 9. The page’s European installed-capacity comparison (25 GW versus 18 GW in 2018) is given without a date for the 25 GW figure.
