Vyrk’s sustainable wall panel eliminates construction waste with circularity
- Published 16 December 2023; updated 17 August 2026; estimated reading time 3 minutes. Marked available; listed under Architecture and construction and Circular economy.
- Vyrk’s Trysilpanel is a decorative wall panel with a core made from recycled wood/residual raw material and a veneer of oak, walnut, birch or ash in five shades. The company positions it for premium interior projects.
- The panels are designed for a closed-loop return model: sold with a refundable deposit, removable after years of use using a mounting system, then returned to Vyrk for refurbishment, possible veneer changes, or milling into a new core. The page says direct refurbishment is preferred over remilling to avoid added cost and emissions.
- At the time of the article, the return scheme had not yet been used by customers because the product had launched in 2023. The CEO forecast a professional-market return rate of 80–90%; that is a company expectation rather than demonstrated return performance.
- Vyrk says the model uses wood more efficiently and reduces waste. The article identifies architecture firm Snøhetta among customers and says Trysilpanel was a finalist for the Norwegian Construction Industry Innovation Award in 2023. It provides no quantified lifecycle or emissions comparison.
- The page cites an EU focus on reducing construction waste and a figure of 500 million tonnes of annual construction waste in Europe. It links the EU Circular Economy Action Plan; the quantity is not dated in the page text.
- Linked to SDG 12 (Responsible consumption and production). “World’s first” and “world’s most sustainable” are promotional claims from the page/company.
